Things To Do
August 29 through December 31: Heard - Back from Extinction

Back from Extinction
Dinosaurs Alive! Life-size Animatronic Dinosaurs at the Heard
August 29 – December 31, 2008
Perhaps you, like many people, have had a keen fascination with the idea of extraordinary and colossal dinosaurs returning to roam the Earth once more. Only a few weeks remain until they return from extinction for you and your family to enjoy. Due to popular demand, on August 29th, Dinosaurs Alive! Life-size Animatronic Dinosaurs at the Heard will open. Nine new and two “famous” life-size animatronic dinosaurs will return to the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary. In 2007, the museum welcomed more than 40,000 visitors for the exhibit; The Heard hopes to provide an entertaining and educational family outing for even more people this year.

Last year’s favorite dinosaurs such as the Dilophosaurus (popular for spitting water) and the timeless Tyrannosaurus-Rex will once again make a temporary home on the Heard sanctuary. New dinosaurs include a Tyrannosaurus-Rex baby, Iguanodon, Crylophosaurus, Chasmosaurus (along with its baby), Amargasaurus, Muttaburrasaurus, Suchomimus and Therizinosaurus. Kids will also enjoy playing on the static Apatosaurus and Parasaurolophus baby dinosaurs. The new dinosaurs are sure to become more of your favorites! Even frequent visitors will enjoy exploring this exhibit again.
Grand Opening Day Activities – September 13, 2008
On Saturday, September 13, the Heard will celebrate the Grand Opening Celebration for Dinosaurs Alive! Visitors will be greeted by a friendly, costumed Tyrannosaurus-Rex. Kids will journey to the meadow where they will find fun activities like a Dinosaur Bounce House and dinosaur themed adaptations of popular games. KLTY 94.9, a Heard partner, will be on-site from noon to 2 PM to cover exciting dinosaur games including “Hot Dinosaur Egg” where kids avoid going extinct by being the last one to hold the egg, Dino Relay, Dino Stomp and Dinosaur Egg Hunt.
Perfect for a Texas autumn day, inside activities will provide your family with opportunities to cool off while enjoying dinosaur festivities. A Dinosaur Coloring Contest will inspire the young artists in your family. This contest will be judged at 3 PM by a Tyrannosaurus-Rex—an obvious choice as an “authority” on dinosaurs! Temporary tattoos and mask making crafts will give kids memorable souvenirs. Complimentary snacks will include Lava Punch, Dino bones (crackers and cookies), and other dinosaur themed treats.
Remember, Dinosaurs Alive! opens August 29 and ends December 31, 2008. Watch our website for updates about this exciting exhibit and the grand opening celebration on September 13 at www.heardmuseum.org.
KLTY 94.9 is a partner of the Heard Natural Science Museum & Wildlife Sanctuary.
